General Researcher Applicants

General Researcher Applicants are any individuals or organisations with an interest in access to DIA’s archived records.  They include authors, academics, students, government agencies and people doing their own family history research.  General Researcher Applicants are divided into two categories: those researching for their own purposes and those researching about, or on behalf of another person.

Applicants researching about or on behalf of another person must provide evidence of consent from that person to access personal information included in their records.

General Researcher Applicants can apply to access any DIA-managed records, including the privately owned ones.

General Research Applicants apply for access to DIA’s archived records under the Policy for Access to Restricted Information Managed by the Aboriginal History Research Unit. This policy complies with the Freedom of Information Act 1992, the State Records Act 2000 and the Adoption Act 1994.
