Heritage in focus
Heirisson Island is a registered Aboriginal heritage site under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 (AHA). However, for some, there are questions as to why.
It is true that Heirisson Island, as it is known today, is largely a modified island, and that its current topography and shape is a result of engineered changes. Despite the changes, there are known Aboriginal traditional associations with the area.
